New watch. Same mountains. Same promise: everybody comes home.

Some people run from danger. They were made to run toward it.

She photographed a daring mountain rescue. It was a murder.

Brynn Walker had the byline, the sources, and the story—until her editor buried it and blacklisted her. Now she shoots marmots for a small-town Montana paper.

Then her 500mm lens finds three men on a ridge above Lake McDonald. One rope. No harness. No anchor. And the man swinging over the drop is wearing a church coat and a red-and-white scarf.

PEAK Rescue never ran a call on that ridge.

By nightfall her apartment is torn apart, her cards are gone, and someone is very interested in what else she shot. So Brynn grabs the nearest PEAK rescuer and calls him sweetheart.

Xander Sullivan doesn’t do impulsive. He checks every anchor twice, ever since a canyon flood taught him what one bad call costs. But Brynn’s fake boyfriend isn’t a role he can walk away from—not with a cut brake line under her car and a priest’s secret journal in his jacket.

A spring blizzard. A hundred-year-old cabin. One sleeping bag. Wolves at the door. And no way to know who in Mercy Falls is on their side.

She trusts no one. He doesn’t trust himself. And the ice is already cracking.

READERS WILL LOVE…

•     Fake dating that starts as a desperate hug in a ransacked apartment—and gets very real, very fast.

•     A snowed-in cabin, a forty-degree sleeping bag, and a “survival trick” that is absolutely just a survival trick.

•     A rescuer who has to learn to trust his gut—and a heroine who saves him when it counts.

•     Authentic search-and-rescue action, from crevasse rope work to thin-ice crossings.

•     The return of PEAK Rescue and Mercy Falls—Book 1 of the brand-new Montana Rescue: New Watch series.

In the mountains, not everyone who falls was climbing.
